Pears: An Excellent Source of Fiber for Kids!

A lot of children struggle with regularity and constipation. This is usually due to a lack of variety in the diet, and food jags (when kids only want to eat one particular food at each meal). However, including food sources of dietary fiber in your child’s diet may prevent constipation!

Dietary fiber acts in two ways against constipation – it helps to bulk the stool and soften the stool. The combination of these two features results in large, soft stools that are much easier for the colon to move along, reducing strain, pain, and negativity with toilet behavior.

All children need fiber – and to find out how much fiber is enough, add 5 to your child’s age for his or her daily fiber needs! So a 4 year-old-child would need 9 grams of fiber (4 years + 5 = 9 grams fiber). Other helpful hints include drinking more water and increasing physical activity.

A medium pear contains 6 grams of fiber! So include more pears in your child’s diet to improve toilet training, and help alleviate constipation and straining!
