December is National Pear Month and to celebrate we are spreading the pear love all month long! USA Pears is excited to give away one (1) box of Northwest pears to one (1) lucky winner. To enter, please like USA Pears on Facebook and leave a comment below telling us which of the 10 pear varieties is your favorite. The winner will be picked randomly on January 7th,Β  2019 at 10AM PST and will be mailed a box of delicious pears, along with some sweet pear swag. Orders will ship by January 15th, 2019. Good luck!

Contest rules:Β  Valid for US residents only who do not have a PO box, APO or FPO address. Winner’s account cannot be set to private.     My favorite pear is a ‘Bartlett’. Our neighbors had two trees in their yard when I was growing up, we use to pick them off the tree and eat them, so delicious.

    BARTLETT PEAR is my favorite! There is nothing better than taking out a cold sweet Bartlett Pear from the refrigerator, on a warm summer afternoon, and eating the Bartlett Pear like an apple.     I adore Comice pears. I put them in cereal with bananas, add them to yogurt with blackberries and raspberries, or eat them alone. I recently discovered the Concorde, cousin of the Comice and will buy them when I can’t find Comice. Today is the first time I ever heard of the Starkrimson and am looking forward to finding them. I am fortunate to be in an area that has a Wegmans, which is a top rated supermarket. I am able to buy the best produce.
    We are so lucky to live in a country where we have such an abundance of food.

    I really love all 10 but I have to say, Bartlett is my favorite. When I was growing up, every summer my family & I would drive to the pear orchards about an hour away from home to pick pears. It was an inexpensive outing & we were rewarded with the best pears! As a kid, we didn’t know we were working, we were having fun! My Parents always wanted the freshest fruits & vegetables possible Picking & eating as many as you could, they were so sweet & juicy! My Mom would can some & taught me how to can. All winter, we had delicious pears. We shared them with family, friends & neighbors so lot’s of people got o enjoy them . Now that I’m grown, those orchards are gone, but I still enjoy pears, that will never change!

  408. While Comice is a favorite for eating out of hand, I vote Bosc for all its potential. This pear is a natural for poaching and baking but is also sturdy enough for serving on a cheese plate. Try slicing it thinly and dehydrating for a pretty garnish or even as part of a centerpiece!
